Working Packages

ATRIUM Project is a 42-month Innovation Action divided in six Work Packages (WPs), structured to develop innovative bio-based SSbD materials towards new construction-oriented consumer products and applications.

Results obtained during the project will accelerate the market introduction of sustainable products by integrating commercial bio-based polymers (such as bio-PE or bio-PA) together with hemp-based natural fibers, recycled organic materials, growth of mycelium into hemp and cotton organic substrates or the production of a bio-composite blend of hemp and lime.

The up-scaling and transformation of these bio-based materials will serve to demonstrate their processability using advanced manufacturing bio-technologies to obtain final oriented consumer products in the construction sector and their 5 respective value chains.

WP1

Identification and
up-scaling of
bio-based materials

WP1 will identify and up-scale 4 types of bio-based materials (Bio-PE + recycled organic fibers, Mycelium based materials, Bio-PA + hemp fibers and hemp-lime bio-composites)

WP2

Innovative Production Improvements
- Pilot Lines -

WP2 will implement innovations in the production processes at their respective pilot lines (Co-extrusion + foaming, bio-fabrication growth, compounding & injection and 3D-biomanufacturing) to substitute current fossil-based alternatives.

WP3

Demonstration & Co-development
of Innovative Business Models

Preliminary and final prototypes will be validated and tested under technical requirements (compared with current benchmarks, end user requirements and EoL routes) as well as implemented at 3 different Demos sites in WP3. The validation stage will not only be a technical validation but also will include the development of innovative business models including all the actors in the value chains having in consideration Social Sciences & Humanities.

WP4

Sustainability by Design,
Regulatory and Digitalization aspects

WP4 will apply to WP1-3 a transversal approach the SSbD methodology (including LCA, LCC, s-LCA) and an Analytic Hierachy Process together with the work on a series of recommendations of these products to be adopted in the novel construction value chains and the integration of preliminary regulatory actions.

Moreover, an IA-data base will be also implemented to optimize the materials, processing and product design optimizing the quality and process efficiencies based on the algorithms and models feeded with the information provided by the rest of the WPs.

WP5

Results management
(Communication & Dissemination & Exploitation)

Communication, Dissemination & Exploitation activities in WP5 will take place throughout the project with the involvement of all the consortium partners, and leaded by ENCO.
Specific collaborative activities with similar projects and activities (special effort on societal innovation, General Public approaches and Stakeholder involvement along the whole value chains (SME´s), together with international cooperation activities are envisaged also within this WP.

WP6

Coordination and project management

Project management coordinated by AIT is envisaged in WP6, together with the data management for interoperability following FAIR principles and ethics.
