ATRIUM Project takes off for a new era of bio-based construction materials

ATRIUM is a 42-months project whose objective is to ensure a sustainable use of 6 bio-based materials to produce 4 bio-composites for the development of 5 consumer-oriented products for the construction sector, transforming the EU construction industry and creating 5 novel biotechnological value chains.

Hosted by AITIIP, the 14 consortium partners gathered together in the coordinator’s facilities in Zaragoza to formally celebrate the kick-off of the project on 4th July.

ATRIUM’s methodology

ATRIUM, standing for “Alternatives for an effective Transition to sustainable, Reusable and recyclable construction products by the Innovative production of User and eco-friendly bio-based Materials”, aims to develop products using the SSBD methodology, which promotes the cascading use of biomass for the material sources, together with the fostering of reusing and recycling of components where possible.

ATRIUM’s demo-sites

To demonstrate ATRIUM solutions in 5 Value chains and validate them at 3 Demo Sites:

• Vienna: test the construction products and provide feedback realization and verification of renovation activities (consumer experience and policy makers).

• Zaragoza: liaise with citizens and public engagement, especially artists and private sector (e.g.: SMEs focused on the construction and refurbishment sectors).

• Israel: study the products’ potential for construction purposes at Academia & Research Involvement.

ATRIUM’s Consortium

ATRIUM consortium forms a strong platform of experts along the development of bio-based composite materials from sustainable material sources and bio-plastics It consists of 14 partners with complementary competences, including: 5 SME´s (HAR,T EC, MOG, MAT, ENC), 5 RTDs (AIT, WOO, CTB, CIR, ITB) and 1 academic partner (BGU). Additionally, the consortium will also include 3 Non- profit organizations (ANR, VZR & IBE).
