Wood K Plus: Advancing Sustainable Innovation in Wood-based Materials
Wood K Plus focuses on materials research and process technology, working across the entire value chain: from raw materials to finished products. Their expertise in sustainable development and innovative solutions is playing a crucial role in transforming the wood industry and pushing the boundaries of eco-friendly materials.
Wood K Plus’ Role in ATRIUM
Wood K Plus plays a pivotal role in the ATRIUM project, driving innovation and sustainability in the wood-based materials sector.
Leading Work Package 1 (WP1), their Team «Biobased Composites, Applications & Processes» is focused on the development of Wood Plastic Composites (WPC). The team is dedicated to formulating WPCs using bio-based and recycled thermoplastic matrices reinforced by recycled organic materials. This work is a key part of their efforts to scale up the co-extrusion foaming process for manufacturing lightweight terrace decking profiles. These profiles are created using the SSbD (Sustainable by Design) framework, in close collaboration with the project’s end-user partner, Hartika from Poland.
In addition to their work with WPCs, Wood K Plus’ Team “Advanced Bonding” is contributing significantly to the development of bio-based adhesives for use in mycelium-based materials. Working closely with SQIM, the team is exploring the application and scale-up of these adhesives, further advancing the use of sustainable materials in the production of bio-based, eco-friendly products.
Through their innovative work within the ATRIUM project, Wood K Plus is pushing the boundaries of sustainable material development, helping to create a more sustainable future for the wood and biocomposite industries.
