ATRIUM Contributes to High-Level Policy Workshop on Bio-based Innovation in Brussels
On 15 May 2025, the ATRIUM project was represented by ENCO at a key policy-oriented workshop in Brussels, jointly organised by the European Commission DG RTD and REA units. The event brought together selected Horizon Europe Cluster 6 projects working on bio-based innovation, biotechnology, life sciences, and digital solutions.
A Strategic Dialogue with Policy Shapers
This high-level gathering aimed to explore the contribution of EU-funded projects like ATRIUM to future European policy frameworks, including:

The update of the Bioeconomy Strategy
The workshop welcomed experts and policy representatives from across the European Commission, and as well as REA Project Officers, providing a unique platform for dialogue between research projects and institutional stakeholders.
ATRIUM’s Contribution: A Platform for Reflection and Synergy
As part of the opening icebreaker session, ENCO delivered a concise presentation of the ATRIUM project, summarising its objectives, methodology, and expected developments in bio-based materials for sustainable construction.
The presentation sparked interest from other projects working on similar sustainability challenges, paving the way for future synergies and collaborations.
The workshop also encouraged all participants to reflect on key guiding questions related to policy gaps, potential alignment between projects, and how the research community can better contribute to sustainability, safety, and circular economy transitions in Europe’s bioeconomy.
It was an opportunity for ATRIUM to be recognised not only as a technical project, but as a contributor to long-term systemic change, informing future research agendas and regulatory frameworks.
Next Steps
A workshop report will prepared by the European Commission summarising the main discussion points and recommendations. This outcome will provide valuable insights to the upcoming policy updates and programmes.
