ATRIUM at the 4th International Conference on Sustainable Building Materials
This summer, ATRIUM was represented at the 4th International Conference on Sustainable Building Materials, hosted from 10–13 August at the Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands. With over 300 participants from research, academia, and industry, the conference served as a vibrant hub for exploring the future of sustainable construction.
The event covered a wide range of themes shaping the sector, from innovations in cementitious binders and waste recovery solutions, to alternative reinforcements for concrete, functionalized materials, and heritage conservation techniques. Special attention was also given to green products and bio-based materials, pointing to the growing need for alternatives that reduce carbon impact while maintaining durability and performance.
Within this context, Achiya Livne, in representation of Ben Gurion’s University of the Negev, one of ATRIUM partners, presented on “Mycelium-based sustainable building materials in arid regions.” The talk highlighted how mycelium-based composites can serve as affordable, environmentally friendly alternatives in regions facing harsh climatic conditions and resource scarcity. The research not only demonstrates the potential of bio-based materials but also underscores the innovative approaches being developed within ATRIUM.
