Ben-Gurion University of the Negev: Innovation Rooted in Sustainability
Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), located in Israel, is a leading research institution renowned for its expertise in sustainable architecture, environmental engineering, and advanced building technologies. The university fosters interdisciplinary research that bridges science, technology, and design to address pressing challenges in energy, water, and sustainable construction.
With state-of-the-art facilities and 60 interdisciplinary research hubs, BGU is known for its academic excellence, as well as its dynamic atmosphere and vibrant student life. BGU’s main campus is in Beer-Sheva, one of the fastest growing cities in Israel, with an additional research campus in the desert landscape of Sde Boker.

BGU’s Role in ATRIUM
Within ATRIUM, BGU is pioneering the development of hempcrete compositions, sustainable building materials made from hemp shives and lime. Their research focuses on advancing these materials for 3D printing applications, combining the natural benefits of hempcrete with improved wall designs to boost energy efficiency in buildings.
The BGU team is experimenting with different formulations and prototypes, helping push the boundaries of bio-based construction materials and their potential for real-world use.
