ATRIUM Turns One: A Year of Bio-based Progress and Shared Ambition
On July 1st, the ATRIUM project celebrates its first anniversary: a milestone that reflects not only twelve months of technical and scientific progress, but also the collective work of thirteen partners committed to making construction more sustainable.
Over the past year, ATRIUM has:
- Defined design of five bio-based construction products, including mycelium-based acoustic panels, bio-resilient flooring, terrace systems, green wall modules, and building blocks.
- Explored and tested bio-based materials such as mycelium composites, hempcrete, recycled wood dust, and bio-based thermoplastics and thermosets.
- Initiated material development and testing of bio-based flame-retardant coatings for mycelium panels.
- Investigated WPC production using prepared recycled wood fibres.
- Developed initial 3D printing systems for hempcrete formulations.
- Enhanced the aesthetic and structural design of acoustic and flooring panels.
In terms of visibility, ATRIUM has:
- Released its first newsletter and launched the ongoing #BuildingTomorrow campaign.
- Showcased the project at key industry events such as Transfiere 2025, Advanced Factories, CIRPLEX, and SETAC Europe.
- Published a growing number of blog articles and partner features through the Who is Building ATRIUM? series.
- Created a public survey on bio-based construction acceptance, now available through the website.
This first year has been dedicated to material development, process design, and strategic collaboration, and we couldn’t be prouder of the work accomplished so far.
