ATRIUM at the European 3D Printing Congress: Shaping the Future of Additive Manufacturing
On the occasion of its annual INFOhappening, ATRIUM partner Centexbel opened its doors to professionals, researchers, and innovators across the materials and textile sectors to share progress on some of the most forward-thinking and eco-conscious projects in its portfolio. Held in Gante (Belgium), the 2025 edition once again offered a space for knowledge exchange and inspiration, with a strong focus on sustainability and circular innovation.
ATRIUM was proudly represented during the event by Frederik Goethals, as Centexbel presented recent updates on its work within the project, particularly focusing on the development of eco-friendly flame-retardant coatings for mycelium-based panels.
Turning Research Into Sustainable Building Materials
Mycelium, a natural material derived from fungal networks, is a core component in one of ATRIUM’s innovative interior construction products — bio-based acoustic panels. Centexbel’s role in the project includes improving the safety and performance of these panels without compromising their environmental credentials.
During the session, Centexbel shared updates on the eco-friendly coating technologies being developed to make mycelium panels more resistant to fire while maintaining their biodegradable and circular properties.
As Centexbel continues its research and development within ATRIUM, events like INFOhappening help bring the consortium’s efforts to the wider R&D community, bridging the gap between laboratory innovation and market-ready solutions.
